How to Judge the Product Quality of Nylon Coated Wire Factory
To assess the product quality of a nylon coated wire factory, a comprehensive evaluation can be conducted from five aspects: appearance, physical properties, chemical properties, process performance, and test reports and qualifications. Specifically:
1. Appearance Quality Inspection
Surface Smoothness and Defects: Under sufficient natural light or a standard light source, place the nylon coated wire against a black or white background and observe it visually or with a magnifying glass. Focus on checking for surface defects such as fuzz, broken ends, knots, bubbles, cracks, impurities, color spots, and oil stains. High-quality nylon coated wire should have a uniform surface gloss and be free of obvious flaws.
Color Uniformity: For colored nylon coated wire, check whether the color is uniform and consistent, and whether there are obvious color differences, color streaks, or color spots. A comparison method can be used, comparing the sample with a standard color card or sealed sample. If necessary, a colorimeter can be used for quantitative testing.
Thread Diameter Uniformity: Although precise thread diameter requires instrumental measurement, visual inspection can preliminarily determine whether there are obvious unevenness in thickness, such as bamboo-like patterns or periodic diameter changes.
2. Physical Performance Testing
Wire Diameter and Deviation: Measure the wire diameter at different locations on the sample using a high-precision outside micrometer, laser diameter gauge, or microscope, and record the maximum, minimum, and average values. Calculate the wire diameter deviation and out-of-roundness. Wire diameter directly affects the strength, air permeability, and fit accuracy with other components of the nylon coated wire.
Breaking Strength and Elongation at Break: Clamp the sample at both ends in the upper and lower fixtures of the testing machine, set the tensile speed, start the testing machine, and record the maximum load and corresponding elongation at break. The elongation at break is calculated using a formula. Breaking strength characterizes the maximum tensile force that the nylon coated wire can withstand, while elongation at break reflects its toughness and elastic deformation capacity.
Heat Shrinkage: Take a sample of a certain length and mark the initial gauge length. Suspend the sample in an oven and perform heat treatment under a specified temperature and time in a free state or under constant tension. After cooling to room temperature, measure the change in gauge length. The heat shrinkage rate is calculated as (initial gauge length×100%). Nylon coated wire shrinks when heated, which is crucial for its stability in high-temperature environments.
Abrasion Resistance: Common methods include grinding wheel abrasion, reciprocating friction, or abrasion testers. For example, under specific loads, the nylon coated wire is subjected to a certain number of friction cycles against a standard grinding wheel or friction medium. Abrasion resistance is evaluated by measuring the mass loss, diameter change, or tensile strength retention rate of the sample before and after friction. Abrasion resistance is a key indicator for nylon coated wire used in easily worn applications such as brushes, conveyor belts, and seals.
3. Chemical Properties and Environmental Adaptability Testing
Chemical Reagent Resistance: Nylon coated wire samples are immersed in a chemical reagent of a specified concentration and left at a set temperature for a certain period. After removal, they are washed with distilled water, dried, and then their appearance changes, tensile strength retention rate, mass change rate, or dimensional change rate are tested and compared with untreated samples. This assesses the resistance of nylon coated wire to specific chemical environments such as acids, alkalis, oils, and solvents.
Water Absorption: Weigh a completely dried nylon-coated yarn sample, then immerse it in distilled water and allow it to reach hygroscopic equilibrium at a specified temperature. After removal, quickly blot the surface moisture with filter paper and weigh immediately. Nylon has a certain degree of water absorption; water absorption will lead to dimensional changes and a decrease in mechanical properties.
Weather Resistance: Natural exposure tests or accelerated aging tests can be used. Aging conditions are set according to relevant standards. After a certain aging time, the sample is removed and its appearance, color, breaking strength, and other properties are tested. The stability and durability of the nylon-coated yarn under various climatic conditions are evaluated.
4. Process Performance Testing
Twist and Twist Direction: For multifilament or twisted monofilament, use a twist meter to measure the number of twists per unit length and observe its twist direction. Twist affects the bundled properties, strength, elasticity, and feel of the multifilament.
Monofilament Count and Uniformity: For multifilament, gently untangle the multifilament and count the number of monofilaments under a magnifying glass. Simultaneously, observe whether the thickness of each monofilament is uniform. Multifilament yarns are composed of multiple monofilaments, and the number and uniformity of the monofilaments' thickness affect the overall performance of the multifilament yarn.
5. Testing Reports and Qualifications
Third-Party Testing Reports: The factory is required to provide testing reports issued by an authoritative third-party testing organization to ensure the objectivity and impartiality of the test results. The testing report should include sample information, testing items, testing methods, test results, and conclusions.
CMA/CNAS Certification: Confirm whether the testing organization possesses CMA or CNAS accreditation. These accreditations prove that the testing organization has the corresponding testing capabilities.
